Most people new to owning and managing websites often make common mistakes regarding website moderators and other staff. Avoiding the following common mistakes will increase your website's chance of success:

-More mods than members:
It happens quite often when webmasters hire more moderators then they have (active)members. It would be better to have more mods than active members rather than just members in general, but not by much if only mods are posting new content or checking the website.

-Jumping the hiring gun:
New webmasters, especially when they have members, often hire people as mods/admins/etc. before seeing how they behave around the site and actually getting to know them.

-Working with friends/family:
Hiring your friends and family usually doesn't work out and quite often they don't have any idea about what they're doing as staff(But this isn't always the case).

-Just me
Some webmasters think they can handle their community alone, but even just a few people can be trouble. I suggest atleast one (trusted)moderator with atleast 5+ members because you can't always be online.
